Automated Ship Mooring System
The ‘Automated Ship Mooring System’ is designed to securely fasten a vessel to the dock using advanced automation technology, instead of traditional ropes or cables. KNR Systems is currently developing a three-axis hydraulic manipulator for this automated mooring system, commissioned by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, with completion expected by 2025.
The large hydraulic manipulator under development transports and attaches suction pads to the hull surface. Once secured, it stabilizes the vessel by applying appropriate force to counteract external forces such as waves and other maritime disturbances in the port, minimizing ship motion for enhanced stability.
This ‘Automated Ship Mooring System’ utilizes hydraulic robotic arm design and control technology to monitor the vessel's position in real time and ensure it remains securely docked using appropriate stabilization methods. By enhancing port operational efficiency, simplifying the mooring process, and reducing risks associated with manual handling, this system is expected to make significant contributions.
