Automated Block Installation System for Naval Dry-Docks
The dry dock block installation automation robot is a hydraulic robotic system currently being developed by our company to enhance the efficiency and safety of naval vessel maintenance operations. Traditionally, naval ships are placed in the dry dock of a maintenance facility for servicing. During this process, numerous heavy timber blocks, each weighing over 15 tons, are utilized. Previously, these blocks were manually positioned using cranes at designated locations. For large vessels weighing 15,000 tons or more, the installation of over 130 blocks required five days, making it a labor-intensive and high-risk procedure with low efficiency.
Since 2022, our company has been developing an unmanned automation system to replace the traditional manned crane-based block placement method by applying hydraulic robotic system technology. The introduction of this robotic technology enables precise positioning of heavy blocks, significantly improving work efficiency while minimizing risks for operators.
Once developed, this equipment will enable unmanned block placement automation in military maintenance facilities. In the civil sector, it can be applied to automating ship block placement in shipyards, as well as unmanned logistics services in ports, steel mills, and other industrial facilities. This technological advancement presents the possibility of establishing new work methodologies across both military and civil industries, and is expected to significantly enhance overall safety and efficiency.
